DGII also seeks to strengthen international contacts through double membership in the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).  In 1996, along with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the ESCRS began publishing the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery- the most widely circulated ophthalmologic surgical journal.
